The Bugle Boy
The Bugle Boy
He stepped out of the tent into the morning light and spied the INdian attack on horses where they were coming he grabbed his Coronet and blew the Charge
every note was strong
his tears came ashuredly and hurriedly whenever he was reminded of the war
The Troop awakened to the fight reached the horses turned this surprise into a Victory then turned and rode near the Bugle Boys tent
and there they saluted him to a man they were all so proud of him
even after the Troop disbanded he was never ever sure
He walked away into the Sun and found the battle area
he found a dead brave about his own age and he began to frown sure that he had caused this young boys death
touched in memory by the Indians face his heart was never quite the same in pieces now he was never strong
no morality in War is only Victory the dead from the battle lived in the mind of the Bugle Boy forever after
and yet he had only done his job
he had looked around the field at all the dead both INdians and Soldiers laying there forever and he wept
The Bugle Boy reached down beside his bed and closed the Coronet Case
