The signal device has to be above the tree line to home in on the ship. They have to see the signal clear to follow it down to the lake is the only chance to make a crash landing. The lander began the climb she could not look down she was so busy just moving up the angle changing every few feet this tree was taller than the forest. Up she went sliding her long legs faster she went she had to get the signal in place before the craft became visible lives were at stake she lost all thoughts of falling as she began moving faster she had to reach the top now. The bullits bouncing harmless off of her carapace she laughed down at the Human face he was hovering very close now just trying to get a shot into her he was trying to stop her from placing the signal she reached out and pinched him he dropped into the tree line in two seperated pieces she was weeping as she reached the very top of the tree she turned on the signal as the tree held her up she placed the signal holder and she fell headlong back the way she had come as the saucer came down screaming from the American sky she died only after knoeing she had saved all those lives. The saucer leveled off and skipped like a stone on the lake water. The ramp fell into the sand on the side of lakeshore drive. Quite near where you live now.
